Dawn Ippoliti Art Therapy

I’m Here To Help

I am a licensed, board certified, art therapist and registered with the American Art Therapy Association. My clinical training stems from a psychodynamic foundation. Yet, my therapeutic approach is holistic drawing on various theoretical philosophies. I am passionate about living life in the present moment and deeply value mindfulness as an accessible internal resource to help alleviate stress and anxiety.

Let’s Work Together...

Over the past twenty four years I have worked in a variety of clinical settings and institutions both in California and New York, providing art therapy and mental health services to children and families in crisis. Currently, I work as the program supervisor for New York University Art Therapy in the Schools Program providing supervision and trainings to school art therapists and their interns. Our program offers individual and group art therapy for at risk high school students who exhibit, social, emotional, or behavioral issues. Often these disturbances are a result of relationship traumas such as abuse, neglect, and abandonment issues, or other family disruptions.

I have continued to maintain a private practice over the past fifteen years in downtown Manhattan where I work with adolescents and adults. Often these individuals are at a crossroad in life and want to find deeper meaning or connections to their own experiences. I believe it is my comprehensive trainings in both psychotherapy and art therapy, which brings diverse elements to my sessions and has helped to foster positive change in the lives of those who have given me the opportunity to work with them. Most recently I have expanded my private practice to further service the people of Millburn, New Jersey and the surrounding communities.

In addition to my clinical work, I have presented at regional and national conferences which included topics on: Using art to foster “Social Emotional Learning” in the class room, the efficacy of art therapy in the public schools to increase self-esteem, affect regulation and impulse control, and art therapy as an effective intervention for trauma and recovery. I believe our own personal growth and development is an ongoing process and I am committed to expanding my knowledge with continuous postgraduate courses, trainings, research, and workshops.
